Discipline is one of the most common traits for all successful people. We have been hearing to be disciplined from childhood by our parents, our teachers, our relatives, and mentors. Still, more than 99 percent of the population around the world is not disciplined. The one percent who are disciplined have always succeeded in achieving their dreams.
Today I would tell you a sure short path to follow through which you will attain self-discipline and eventually get the best out of yourself.
Before telling you about the steps which you need to do, we must first understand what self-discipline means? Self- discipline is a trait to control yourself and work according to your brain rather than your emotions. It is taking your life on your own control and do things according to the plan rather than according to your mood.
It is psychologically proven that if we do anything continuously for 21 days then it becomes our habit. So all the tasks which I would be recommending today have to be done forcefully for 21 days and then after 22nd day you would start enjoying those steps and inherit the trait of self-discipline.
STEP-1: SET YOUR GOALS CLEAR AND HAVE AN EXECUTION PLAN
It is very important for you to know what do you want to do throughout the day and prepare a proper plan of execution. For example, create a checklist of the task that needs to be done in advance. This will help you to keep a check on your progress.
STEP2: SET MULTIPLE REMINDERS WITH THE REASONS WHY YOU WANT TO DO THAT TASK
If you want to wake up in the morning at 6 or go for running or do any of the tasks in your daily routine then set multiple alarms with an interval of 15 mins. Make sure that each reminder does mention why you want to do that. For example, If I want to go to the gym in the morning at 7, I would be witing in the reminder that “I WANT TO GET MY BODY TONED SO THAT I LOOK MORE ATTRACTIVE”.
STEP 3: DO THINGS WHICH YOU DON’T LIKE FORCEFULLY FOR ATLEAST 15 MINUTES DAILY
It is very important to train our brains to do things which we don’t like. For example, solving maths problems or running or writing articles, etc. This will help you to gain control over your moods.
STEP 4: CARROT AND STICK APPROACH
As you create your daily plans and assess them at the end of the day and week. Give yourself some small rewards like chocolate or doughnuts for good performance and penalise yourself by leaving social media for a week or giving away your favourite earphones to your siblings if you are unable to follow your plans. This will make yourself more inclined towards following the plans you make.
STEP 5: Meditation
One of the biggest life-changing habits is meditation. Just a simple act of focusing on your breath for 5 to 15 mins daily will give you superpowers. It will enhance your focus, patience level, and bring more happiness in your lives. You will start appreciating small things and understand that we are ruining our present because of our guilt of past and worry of future.
STEP 6: EAT HEALTHY
What you eat has a direct impact on how you behave. A good healthy diet will keep you energetic and positive. Just like the fuel is very important for any machine to function similarly healthy food is important in order to utilize your body to its fullest
Though these steps might look very easy but it is extremely tough to continuously follow them. You might not be able to continue it in the first attempt or second or hundredth but one hundredth and one, you will surely be able to follow these and that extra attempt to attain self-discipline will change your life for good.
